Our founders feel the same about beer as they do about people: the more they can meet the better. During travels to do just that, Derek and Jean found themselves at a jazz and beer festival in England. Sitting alone on one corner of the lawn waiting for a show to begin, person after person and group after group stumped by, many saying hello and expressing their excitement for the band about to play. Their curiosity piqued, they paid eager attention when the music began. To both their surprise and enjoyment, it was a bluegrass band who played, unexpectedly, almost nothing but AC/DC covers. The group was a hit in the park and stuck with Jean and Derek all the way back home. Join us for a beer on the porch at Mayhew Junction Brewery today and you may even hear a song or two from Hayseed Dixie fiddle its way over the speakers. Anyway, one thing our founders have in common is a love for pub ales, and our Mayhew Mild is created to be just that - a highly-drinkable brew for a day in the park or a night at the pub. Banjo not required.

One evening after work, Chris and Katy were on their way to see Jean and Derek and other assorted friends so they could sample a new beer Chris was in the process of perfecting. Nearly there safe, Chris and Katy's car felt a surprising bump in the road as they pulled through the neighborhood. Katy looked back and asked what he ran over as Chris, perhaps a bit defensively, exclaimed that his eyes were on the road and he couldn't have a hit thing! Their question was quickly answered when a slightly-frantic lady ran from her house yelling that Chris had run over her dog and he better do better something about it, right this moment, young man! As it turns out, the dog in question was a blue-heeler who had chased the car from behind and attempted to take a bite out of one of the back wheels. Little Fido was unsuccessful in that attempt, but he emerged perfectly safe from the failed try. However, Chris felt so bad, and the beer tasted so good, that the crew made fun of him by calling his new brew the Three-Legged Pale in honor of the little Blue Heeler. The Pale is one of our most drinkable beers, and we can confidently share that it helps ease the nerves after a stressful day.

Perhaps it's a bit obvious, but we're prone to a little nostalgia here at Mayhew Junction. We love people, places and especially drinks, and the memories of those are what life is all about. It's why the idea of friends from all over converging on little Mayhew is so perfect to us. Now, Jean in particular is full of love, and among the things she loves are family, friends and good Hefeweizens. This German Heffy is a combination of all three, a sweet banana-heavy crafting by Jean of the drink she so appreciates, in honor of the people who mean the most. Derek and Chris were both raised on German beer, and the ties to the country famous for its brews are constant among the founders and their families. Brewing beer is artistry, and our Mayhew Weiss is Jean's Mona Lisa, a wheaty love story to those she holds dear.

    STOUT

Being well known for their interest in and enjoyment of beer, friends of our founders often point them in direction of new discoveries or offer up tasty (and sometimes less tasty) finds of their own. In fact, in lieu of wedding gifts, Derek and Jean asked that if guests gave them anything to celebrate their nuptials it should be a new beer to try rather than some toaster or serving dish. One such recommendation came from a local friend named John. John, knowing how partial Derek is to the style, secured a pack of his favorite chocolate stout from Colorado and gave it to Derek to try. As you might guess, Derek loved it, too. In fact, he loved it so much that he set out to brew a chocolate stout of his own since he couldn't find John's recommendation anywhere in the state. One recipe led to another which led to another as Derek experimented to find the right combination of ingredients. Finally, one day, Derek tried the first sip of a batch and he knew - he had struck chocolate. His first reaction, after taking several more sips, was to call John so he could try it, too. "The Colorado", John said after his first sip, "is now my second-favorite chocolate stout." The Chocolate Hook-Up hasn't been given any awards yet, but we're counting that as a win for our dark, smooth and flavorful stout.
